Player Spotlight

Welcome to our first, hopefully of many, Imangi Player Spotlights. I was lucky enough to have a chance to interview Hulett London via email. Hulett currently holds the top 4 worldwide high scores in Standard Imangi with his best board scoring 61,000 points.

I'd like to thank Hulett for letting me interview him, and sharing his strategy in such detail! I hope you all enjoy the interview, and stay tuned for more spotlights in the future.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, where are you from, etc?

Hi Keith,

I am a SAP HR/Payroll Consultant from London, I have three Children 10 year old twins Katie & Cameron and a 21 year old son, Jamie, who is currently at University.

How did you hear about Imangi?

I found Imangi by looking through the App Store on my Itouch. I had already downloaded Quordy and was looking for other word games as I am a Scrabble enthusiast.

I began playing Imangi at the beginning of August while on holiday in Turkey with my family and I was playing the Expert mode by the end of the second week.

I was scoring around the mid 43,000 to 47,000 points and was really pleased with myself. I then found the Imangistudios website and saw that James CA had posted a score of 55,000 points, I thought wow, I showed this to my daughter who said, "Dad you'll never beat that score". The challenge was on.

What is your strategy in playing Standard Imangi?

To achieve a really high score you have to be very lucky with the letters and have a system or strategy.

The mistake I was making to begin with was always trying to use the high-scoring letters first, I soon realised that I was missing out on interchanging letters to make other possible words. See example later.

The other thing I realised is that you had to make at least three banks of eight letter words to achieve over 50,000 points.

I will demonstrate a game I played last night using my son's Itouch, I downloaded screen prints to show how I achieve my high scores.

Example 1

I always try to get two eight letter words that go together as above, then build on it. As you can see I only have to worry about the word in blue.

I then create my third bank of eight letter words and realise that I can make a fourth if I use the Y and the R from the top row.

Example 2

I then try to make six letter words going across but am struggling so I change one of my eight letter words going down without disrupting the shape of the board - This may give me more options. So I change ARENITES to ADONISES.

Example 3

I am now able to make a six letter word on the top line which bumps my score up by over 3,000 points and finally I try to use the remaining high scoring letters.

I now create another six letter word going across which adds another 3,000 plus points to my total. Then I spot that I can make the words THE and SH with my H, the words ROE and OY with my O and finally the word TIDE or TIKE.

Example 4

This would have given me a score of around 59,000 but unfortunately my son demanded his Itouch back and said I should use my own.

If you are lucky with your letters everyone can achieve a very high score.

I hope this was useful.

-Hulett.
